Teen Backpack Program

In Collaboration with the Arthritis Society.

What is a Backpack Program?

The Take A Pain Check and Arthritis Society Teen Backpack Program is designed to provide young people living with rheumatic diseases the tools they need for everyday comfort, mental well-being, and empowerment. Each backpack contains a collection of carefully chosen items that aim to make navigating the challenges of chronic illness a little easier. The program is dedicated to delivering these backpacks to newly diagnosed teens with arthritis and other rheumatic conditions, to provide resources and support.

Eligability

Teens between the ages of 13-19, who have arthritis or another rheumatic disease diagnosis are eligible to receive one backpack.

Ergonomic Design & Resource

We collaborated with rheumatologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and young people with lived experiences while creating the backpack. Matt & Nat created the backpacked allowing our vision to come to life. Each backpack has broad straps, padding, and waist support to minimize strain on the vulnerable joints of young people with arthritis.

What’s in the Bag

  • A resource list to help connect individuals to programs, resources, and research. Whether searching for information on living with arthritis as a teen, practical support, or a community network, this resource list offers valuable guidance.
  • An electric toothbrush designed to reduce the effort and strain required for effective brushing.
  • Pencil grips that enhance the comfort of using various writing tools.
  • Zipper pulls that can be added to zippers, making them easier to open and close.
  • Hot and cold packs
  • A Rheumy Bear
  • And more!
